Who We Are

A Samoan company building energy independence from the ground up.

Waste to Energy Group Limited (W2NRG) is a Samoan-owned company established to deliver a cleaner, more secure energy future for the nation.

For more than a decade, our founding team has worked to bring proven waste-to-energy technology to the Pacific — addressing two of Samoa's most pressing challenges at once: the rising cost of imported fuel and the growing pressure on our landfills. The result is the Apia Energy Centre, a project designed, owned and led from Samoa, for Samoa.

The Apia Energy Centre

A landmark facility at Tafaigata, Upolu.

The Apia Energy Centre is a purpose-built facility that transforms waste streams into renewable electricity and valuable energy by-products.

Located at Tafaigata on the island of Upolu, the centre is engineered to deliver dependable baseload power to the national grid under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement. By generating energy locally from material that would otherwise go to waste, the project reduces Samoa's reliance on imported diesel and eases the burden on the Tafaigata landfill.

It is a circular-economy project in the truest sense — waste in, clean energy out.

Project at a Glance

  • 5 MW renewable generation capacity
  • Advanced pyrolysis conversion technology
  • Long-term grid supply agreement
  • Located at Tafaigata, Upolu, Samoa
  • Clean energy by-products recovered on site
  • Designed to international engineering standards

How It Works

Proven pyrolysis technology, applied for Samoa.

Pyrolysis breaks down waste at high temperature in the absence of oxygen — recovering its energy value cleanly and efficiently, without conventional incineration.

1

Collect

Waste feedstock is gathered, sorted and prepared for processing at the centre.

2

Convert

Material is processed through the pyrolysis system, transforming it into usable energy outputs.

3

Generate

Recovered energy drives generation, producing reliable electricity for the grid.

4

Supply

Clean power is delivered to the national network for homes and businesses across Samoa.

Why It Matters

Energy, environment and opportunity for Samoa.

Energy Security

Locally generated baseload power reduces dependence on imported diesel and exposure to volatile global fuel prices.

Less Waste

Diverting waste from the Tafaigata landfill extends its life and protects land, water and the surrounding environment.

🌿

Cleaner Future

Renewable generation supports Samoa's climate commitments and the Pacific transition to sustainable energy.

🏢

Local Jobs

Construction and operation create skilled employment and build long-term technical capability in Samoa.

💰

National Value

A Samoan-owned asset that keeps energy investment and expertise within the country.

🌏

Pacific Model

A replicable blueprint for clean, decentralised energy across small island nations.
